This week on Car Talk, should Mary let her 17-year-old son accept his girlfriend's mother's offer to give him her vintage Dodge Dart? Is Mom offering the car as a dowry substitute? Elsewhere, Cathy may have to resort to riding around wearing a football helmet to get her husband to get rid of his old Corolla; Carl earns Bad Idea of the Week honors for wanting to mount a snow plow to the front of his mini-van; and Chana's Dad's advice about warming up her car may be a subtle way of telling her he thinks she's a stinko driver. Also, how on earth did a parking valet start Kenneth's Subaru with the key from Kenneth's Caravan? All this and more, this week on Car Talk. [Broadcast Date: January 11, 2014] 1. Language: English. Narrator: Tom Magliozzi, Ray Magliozzi. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/rt/cart/140111/rt_cart_140111_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

“I Remember, I Remember" "Boo, hoo! Ow, ow; Oh! oh! Me'll die. Boo, hoo. The pain, the pain! Boo, hoo!" "Come, come, now. Daddy's little mate isn't going to turn Turk like that, is she? I'll put some fat out of the dinner-bag on it, and tie it up in my hanky. Don't cry any more now. Hush, you must not cry! You'll make old Dart buck if you kick up a row like that." That is my first recollection of life. I was barely three. I can remember the majestic gum-trees surrounding us, the sun glinting on their straight white trunks, and falling on the gurgling fern-banked stream, which disappeared beneath a steep scrubby hill on our left. It was an hour past noon on a long clear summer day. We were on a distant part of the run, where my father had come to deposit salt. He had left home early in the dewy morning, carrying me in front of him on a little brown pillow which my mother had made for the purpose. We had put the lumps of rock-salt in the troughs on the other side of the creek. The stringy bark roof of the salt-shed which protected the troughs from rain peeped out picturesquely from the musk and peppercorn shrubs by which it was densely surrounded, and was visible from where we lunched. The green-hide bags in which the salt had been carried were hanging on the hooks of the pack-saddle which encumbered the bay pack-horse. Father's saddle and the brown pillow were on Dart, the big grey horse on which he generally carried me, and we were on the point of making tracks for home. Miles Franklin began the candid, passionate, and contrary My Brilliant Career when she was only 16, intending for it to be the Australian answer to Jane Eyre. This thinly veiled autobiographical tale of a young girl hungering for life and love in the outback was so beyond its years when first released in 1901 that Franklin insisted it not be published again until 10 years after her death. My Brilliant Career is a coming of age story for all of the ages. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Carrie Bickmore. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/adbl/021718/bk_adbl_021718_sample.mp3. A Carlin Home Companion: Growing Up with George...

Truly the voice of a generation, George Carlin gave the world some of the most hysterical and iconic comedy routines of the last 50 years. From the "Seven Dirty Words" to "A Place for My Stuff" to "Religion Is Bullshit", he perfected the art of making audiences double over with laughter while simultaneously making people wake up to the realities (and insanities) of life in the 20th century. Few people glimpsed the inner life of this beloved comedian, but his only child, Kelly, was there to see it all. Born at the very beginning of his decades-long career in comedy, she slid around the "old Dodge Dart" as he and wife Brenda drove around the country to "hell gigs". She witnessed his transformation in the '70s, as he fought back against - and talked back to - the establishment; she even talked him down from a really bad acid trip a time or two. ("Kelly, the sun has exploded and we have eight, no, seven-and-a-half minutes to live!") Kelly not only watched her father constantly reinvent himself and his comedy, but also had a front-row seat to the roller-coaster turmoil of her family's inner life - alcoholism, cocaine addiction, life-threatening health scares, and a crushing debt to the IRS. But having been the only "adult" in her family prepared her little for the task of her own adulthood. All the while, Kelly sought to define her own voice as she separated from the shadow of her father's genius. With rich humor and deep insight, Kelly Carlin pulls back the curtain on what it was like to grow up as the daughter of one of the most recognizable comedians of our time and become a woman in her own right. This vivid, hilarious, heartbreaking story is at once singular and universal - it is a contemplation of what it takes to move beyond the legacy of childhood and forge a life of your own. The audiobook includes bonus audio recordings of George Carlin and a conversation between Kelly Carlin and Garry Shandling. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Kelly Carlin. Bomb: My Autobiography , Hörbuch, Digital, 1, 6...

A hugely entertaining career autobiography from a true legend of Welsh rugby and a genuine cult figure. In rugby there are the Flash Harrys and the Glory Boys: the fly-halves who run, kick and dazzle; the scrum-halves who nip and dart; the wingers who step and glide. These are the players who get the crowd on their feet, who set stadiums abuzz. But they only get to do these things because other, less glorified figures do all of the donkey work. Adam Jones is one such figure. And for a decade he was one of the world's best. On many occasions when George North or Shane Williams was careering under the posts to score a try, and the crowd was engulfed in rapturous joy, Adam Jones would be hauling himself up from the turf, spitting blood and mud and massaging his aching neck. He hadn't scored the try, but more often than not it was his graft and strength which had made it. This is the story of Bomb: the self-effacing manual labourer from the Swansea Valley who traded laying paving slabs for running out in some of the world's most imposing sporting citadels. He rose to the pinnacle of his sport, winning virtually everything there was to be won: Grand Slams, Six Nations Championships, Lions tours, Pro12 titles. In a nation of rugby heroes, Adam Jones has become a legend. Only six Welshmen can say they've won three Grand Slams. He is one of them: not just as a bit-part player but as the beating heart of the most successful squad in Welsh rugby history. His was one of the first names on the team sheet. He was - literally and metaphorically - the cornerstone of this Welsh side. In his autobiography Jones reveals exactly what goes on in the murky depths of the front row: the tricks, the techniques, the physical and psychological warfare and the mental fortitude it takes to endure in one of the hardest positions in one of the world's toughest contact sports. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Gareth Armstrong. Audio sample: http://samples.audible.de/bk/head/000428/bk_head_000428_sample.mp3. Digital audiobook in aax.

The Dodge Aries is an automobile sold by the Chrysler Corporation from 1981 to 1989. It replaced the Dodge Aspen as Dodge's family car with "mid-size room" in a size and front-wheel drive format commonly associated with compact cars. It had a much larger United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) volume than the Tempo or Cavalier which the EPA classified as compacts, or Honda Accord which was a subcompact in 1985. Ford and Chrysler would compare the K cars with the Fairmont and Tempo. The Aries was sold as the Dart in Mexico. The Aries was Motor Trend magazine's Car of the Year for 1981. The Aries sold almost a million units in a single generation.

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The Leyland Swift was a midibus chassis built by Leyland from 1987, sharing many components with the Roadrunner light truck but with the engine relocated to behind the front axle which was itself set back to permit a passenger entrance in the front overhang. Mechanically a 6-cylinder Cummins turbo- diesel powerplant was standard with the choice of synchromesh or Allison automatic gearboxes. It was available in a choice of short wheelbase (3.6 m) or long wheelbase (4.4 m). A number of coachbuilders produced bodies on the Swift with Wadham Stringer enjoying healthy sales with a very tidy adaptation of its Vanguard II body. The Reeve Burgess Harrier was also popular, while Wright of Northern Ireland produced two distinct designs and Elme 2001 of Portugal supplied a number to Orion coach specification and also to Welfare CareCoach specification with a centrally mounted underfloor wheelchair lift. Several Swifts were built as mobile libraries. Sales declined markedly once production of the lower-floor Dennis Dart was in full swing.
