A hugely entertaining career autobiography from a true legend of Welsh rugby and a genuine cult figure. In rugby there are the Flash Harrys and the Glory Boys: the fly-halves who run, kick and dazzle; the scrum-halves who nip and dart; the wingers who step and glide. These are the players who get the crowd on their feet, who set stadiums abuzz. But they only get to do these things because other, less glorified figures do all of the donkey work. Adam Jones is one such figure. And for a decade he was one of the world's best. On many occasions when George North or Shane Williams was careering under the posts to score a try, and the crowd was engulfed in rapturous joy, Adam Jones would be hauling himself up from the turf, spitting blood and mud and massaging his aching neck. He hadn't scored the try, but more often than not it was his graft and strength which had made it. This is the story of Bomb: the self-effacing manual labourer from the Swansea Valley who traded laying paving slabs for running out in some of the world's most imposing sporting citadels. He rose to the pinnacle of his sport, winning virtually everything there was to be won: Grand Slams, Six Nations Championships, Lions tours, Pro12 titles. In a nation of rugby heroes, Adam Jones has become a legend. Only six Welshmen can say they've won three Grand Slams. He is one of them: not just as a bit-part player but as the beating heart of the most successful squad in Welsh rugby history. His was one of the first names on the team sheet. He was - literally and metaphorically - the cornerstone of this Welsh side. In his autobiography Jones reveals exactly what goes on in the murky depths of the front row: the tricks, the techniques, the physical and psychological warfare and the mental fortitude it takes to endure in one of the hardest positions in one of the world's toughest contact sports. 1. Eric Bristow MBE (1957-2018) might just have been the greatest darts player of all time. An unmistakable figure on the oche during his 1980s heyday, 'the Cheeky Cockney' became renowned not just for the number of world titles he won but for his arrogance on stage and off it. In this candid account, Bristow reveals how darts saved him from his early life as a cat burglar, shoplifter and thug - and introduced him to a new world of beer, babes and success beyond his wildest dreams. In his rapid rise to the top, he gives fascinating insights into the characters that pioneered darts in those early days and how, when his own career began to slide at the end of the decade, he trained his protege Phil 'The Power' Taylor, turning him into the most successful player darts has ever known. Bristow holds nothing back as he reveals his battle with dartitis, a psychological condition which left him unable to let go of the dart and almost destroyed his career; his relationship with girlfriend and former women's world darts champion Maureen Flowers; and his occasional all-too-public falls from grace. Bristow's life story is a thrill-a-minute ride through the raucous world of darts and how it helped to shape and drive his life.

'From Mozart to Villa-Lobos and South African pop, Dodd brings out Walker's gift for illumination; best of all, these conversations have you searching out new-found fare as well as hearing familiar and forgotten music anew'. -- William Dart 'A wide-ranging and catholic view of the music-listening experience for our time - Walker is an ideally active listener, with Dodd an equally ideal interlocutor'. -- Martin Lodge Born and educated in Scotland, Marshall Walker lectured in English and American literature at Glasgow University from 1965 to 1980 after a spell at Rhodes University in South Africa. From 1981 until 2006 he was Professor of English at the University of Waikato in New Zealand. As Dean of Humanities he initiated and oversaw the establishment of Music at the University. An occasional broadcaster on music and literature, he introduced, for Radio New Zealand and the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, concerts of the 2005 Sydney Sibelius Festival in which Sibelius's symphonies were performed by the Sydney Symphony Orchestra conducted by Vladimir Ashkenazy. He lives in Hamilton, New Zealand, with his wife, the Brazilian writer, Cláudia Pacce. Senior Music Producer for Radio New Zealand Concert, Tim Dodd was born and raised in Dunedin, New Zealand. His degree is in Physics but his primary passion was always for music. He landed his dream job at Radio New Zealand in 1990 and he's been there ever since, overseeing the broadcast and recording of live concerts and producing countless spoken features about music. Included among these are many interviews he has conducted with New Zealand and international musicians such as the pianist and writer Charles Rosen, violinists Shlomo Mintz and James Ehnes, American composer Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, cellist Raphael Wallfisch, jazz bass player Dave Holland and Brazilian guitarist and composer Egberto Gismonti. He lives in Auckland, New Zealand, with his wife and children. For over twenty years the two friends have been talking to each other about music. Tim Dodd produced Walker's award-winning Letters to Sibelius for Radio New Zealand Concert, the programmes reaching listeners in Australia and Scotland as well as New Zealand and forming the basis of Walker's book, Dear Sibelius: Letter from a Junky published by Kennedy and Boyd in 2008. The Music for Life conversations that followed were broadcast by Radio New Zealand in December 2009, but the talk went on. This book presents the ongoing conversations in the hope that readers will like to join in.
